Bulgarian Winners of the Competition “Draw Me a Right” Were Announced On the Award Ceremony in Sofia

The Award ceremony of the competition for youngsters “Draw Me a Right” was held yesterday in the EU Information Centre in Sofia. The competition was organized by Directorate-General “Justice, Freedom and Security” of the European Commission.
The national coordinator of the event was Youth Society for Peace and Development of the Balkans working together with the EC Representation in Bulgaria.
The winners of the first prize in the competitions selected by the national jury will compete in a second round at European level. The three top teams in each age group will be invited to visit Brussels from 8 to 10 May 2010, for a memorable weekend and a tour of the European institutions, as well as to attend a European award ceremony.
The Bulgarian winning teams are:
10 – 14 years
First prize: "Faith, Hope and Love" from 126 Primary School in Sofia, Bulgaria
Second prize: "Vrabchetata" from Art club “Geya”, Lovetch
Third prize: "Kokitcheta" from Art club “Geya”, Lovetch
15 – 18 years
First prize: "The Bubbles" team with leader Rossitza Getsova, Sofia
Second prize: "Sunshine" from High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences "Yane Sandanski", Gotze Delchev
Third Prize: "Repin 1" team, atelier "Repin", Kazanlak
The ceremony was inaugurated by Ms. Zinaida Zlatanova – Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria. The event was attended also by Mr. Kalin Kamenov – Deputy Chairperson of the State Agency for Child Protection, Mrs. Irena Krakachanova – Director of the Youth Department (Ministry Of Education And Science), Mrs. Irena Dimitrova – Director of “Prevention, integration, sport and tourism” Department of Sofia Municipality.
This year the competition was dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child". It was launched on 20 November 2009, by Vice-President Jacques Barrot. European youngsters aged 10 to 18 were invited to design a poster on one of the rights enshrined in the Convention. The aim of the competition was to ensure that these young Europeans are more aware of their rights and better equipped to defend them.
Over 1500 children from all over the country worked in teams and presented their own visions of the Rights of the Child. By the deadline of the competition – 19th March, in the office of the national coordinator arrived 398 posters from both age categories (10-14 and 15-18).
