YSPDB has elected a new president and a secretary general
September 07, 2009
General Assembly of the Youth Society for Peace and Development of the Balkans has taken place in Plovdiv. The president Stefan Posliyski presented the activities in the last 3 years and the aims achieved during the period he has been leading the organization. Among the successes of the organization was the fact that the compulsory military service was abolished, right after the promotional campaign on conscientious objection that we organized in 2005 and 2006. In the period 2005-2009 YSPDB gave the opportunity for more than 450 young people to take part in youth exchanges, 240 young leaders to participate in youth trainings. Among the successful projects is the long-term programme of the Anticorruption student network in SEE.
In the last few years YSPDB proved its role in the youth policy development in Bulgaria. Our organization took part in different initiatives organized by the State Agency for Youth and Sports and we were often invited to express our opinion on strategic issues concerning young people in Bulgaria.
One of the main partners of YSPDB is the “youth capital” of Bulgaria - Varna. The two National debates implemented in cooperation with Varna Municipality in 2008 and 2009 are the most authoritative youth events in Bulgaria.
The partnership with the European Youth Forum confirmed the confidence and competence that YSPDB has in the area of youth work. Our Secretary General - Veselin ILIEV was a member of the youth work development working group of the European Youth Forum and now he is a member of the Consultative body on membership applications. The activities organized in cooperation with YFJ are: study visit to Bulgaria in 2005, training on youth work development in 2006 (Varna), meeting of the youth work development working group in 2008 (Varna) and meeting of the Consultative body on membership applications in 2009 (Plovdiv).
The newly elected, Veselin ILIEV as a president and Emiliya Troshanova as a Secretary General, will continue working for the mission of the organization. Their main priorities will be the negotiation for the stronger and more active participation of young people in the decision-making process on local and national level in Bulgaria. The new team will continue working on the already developed projects as the activities of the Anticorruption Student network in SEE.
