European Action on Drugs
July 2, 2009
The EU has launched a large-scale programme to counter illicit drug trafficking and sales “European Action on Drugs”. The programme seeks to enhance European citizens’ awareness of drug-related issues. EC published a report on drugs indicating that 12 million people in Europe use or have tried cocaine. As well as this, one EU citizen dies every hour from a drugs overdose. EU Justice Commissioner Jacques Barrot urged all European citizens to be actively involved in the implementation of the European Action on Drugs, standing high on EU’s list of priorities.
Youth Society for Peace and Development of the Balkans will be involved on this large European initiative by organizing events in Bulgaria. Main partners in its activities will be the network of Youth Consultancy and Information Centers and the municipal offices of drug prevention. The organization plans to organize initiatives in 39 towns of Bulgaria, meeting young people and discussion the impact of drugs on the young people.
