Youth and local authorities

YSPDB organized training for local authorities and young citizens from Maritsa Municipalities on the topic “Youth and local authorities” in the period 11-13 December 2007. The Deputy Mayor of the Municipality Mrs. Yana Ocheva, members of the City Council, local administration, youth organizations and young citizens participated in the training.
"How local administration can support the youth initiatives in the municipalities?” was the main question discussed during the training. Facilitators of the event were Stefan Posliyski (YSPDB Chair) and Vesselin Iliev (Secretary General). They presented the history of the Bulgarian youth movements and situation at present, the European model for youth policy and how it influences the local one. What are the main forms of local participations, what the co-management is and how youth NGOs and the Municipality in Maritsa can develop an active youth policy for the young people, who live there were also discussed. Varna Municipality was presented as best practice for youth work development and dialogue between local authorities and young people on a local level.
The European Programme “Youth in Action” was also presented, as a main instrument for youth policy and youth work development. The facilitators encouraged the participants to apply, especially for EVS, which is one of the priority actions of the Programme in Bulgaria.
