YSPDB takes active part in the process of motivating students to participate in Higher Education management

YSPDB is a partner organization in the project “Strengthening Student Participation in South-East Europe”. The latter is developed by the Student Union of Novi Sad and aims to strength student initiative and increase student participation in decision making process and university governance. The project includes building informal student network in South-East Europe and increasing knowledge and skills improvement for student leaders trough training modules. The network will consist of student organizations from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Albania, Bulgaria and Serbia.
Between 7th and 12th May 2007 the third module part of the project “Student Participation in South-East Europe” took place in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia. The number of participants was 15 and they were students’ representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Bulgaria and Serbia.
During the first day of the training module the main activities were directed to leadership. The participants worked on the statements that explain what a leader is and what are the characteristics of the perfect leader. They were acquainted with Lenin theory about the three styles of leadership. The participants took part in a little inquire which showed that all of them are team leaders.
During the second day of the training module there were two main issues to be discussed – team work and the conflict related to the team work. The participants defined the characteristics of a good team and made the Belbin test to find the role which suits them when they work in a team. The participants were introduced to the four steps that make a group of people team and to different behaviors of the people when they are in a conflict situation.
During the third day of the training module the work was orientated to communications and project cycle. The participants learned more about the assertive style of communication and practiced it among the group. They became familiar with the rights that they have during the communication process. The participants were introduced to the preparation process that precedes the development of a project. Based on this knowledge they developed goal and objectives of an imaginary project.
The last day of the module was orientated to the project cycle in practice and public relations. The participants continued their work on the imaginary project. They were audience of a presentation about public relations.
The training gave a basic knowledge that will help the student leaders to improve the quality of student participation in university management.
