The last conscripts will join the Armed Forces in the summer

It is absolutely possible to complete the professionalization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces in 2007 after the last 4,000 professional servicepersons are recruited, Parliament's National Security Committee Chairman Angel Naidenov said on Monday.
The last conscripts will join the Armed Forces in the summer, to leave them by the year's end.
Applicant pressure for career service positions is more than three applicants per place, Naidenov said. The pressure is lower for less attractive jobs, such as tracked vehicle drivers and mechanics.
The regulatory framework for career service should also be completed this year. Some regulatory changes are linked to proposed constitutional amendments, he said.
According to Naidenov, laws are needed to regulate the creation and maintenance of a mobilization reserve. A separate policy line is to train students in disaster and accident response. New regulatory instruments will also provide for matters relating to the social status of career servicepersons, such as wages and care for family members, especially in the event of overseas operations.
Naidenov underscored the need for new laws on defence and the Armed Forces and on military career service.
