YSPDB organized contact-building seminar in Plovdiv.

February 28, 2006

YSPDB organized contact-building seminar in Plovdiv according to the frame of Action 5 of the YOUTH Programme on February 17-22, 2006. The meeting executed in cooperation with Plovdiv Municipality, a pool of trainers from the European Youth Forum and Municipal Youth Council of Plovdiv. Martina Vasilj and Bogdan Imre (European Youth Forum Pool of trainers), whose participation was a guarantee for the success of the seminar, facilitated the sessions.

The objective of the training was to gather representatives from countries involved in the Programme in Eastern Europe to help find a way for future cooperation in the youth sector through Youth Programme.

In the few last years the European Union has been expanding, especially SEE. As Bulgaria and Romania prepare for EU accession, organizations within these countries must work together and with other members of the European Union. In addition, efforts must be made to unite potential members of the EU. In light of this, the need for collaboration is vital to build and strengthen a better future for civil society.

Unfortunately, cooperation among the organizations in these countries is dismal; however, the organizations in the region are more active with organizations from Western Europe. Therefore, YSPDB would like to initiate cooperation among the organizations in countries in the so-called Eastern bloc. YSPDB organized this contact-building seminar based on Youth Programme because this program initiates some of the best opportunities for youth. The basis of the program is an ideal model of promoting cooperation, partnerships and diversity among youth organizations. The success of the program will lend to the formation and the success of the implementation in Eastern Europe. The contact-making seminar will initiate new future projects on Youth Programme Actions by developing partnerships among organizations from the region.

During the event, participants were able to discuss future actions and projects following the strategic framework of the European Youth Forum for development of the youth work and youth policy in South-Eastern Europe. The forthcoming European youth campaign “All different, all equal” was also presented. The participating organizations were encouraged to take part in the campaign. Participants had the opportunity to create ideas for common projects. At the end, 14 concrete projects were presented. The Plovdiv Municipality invited the youth leaders for a meeting. For the local institutions, this meeting shows that the youth NGOs in Plovdiv are aware of the current topics on the European agenda.
