The general assembly of the United Nations declared the 21 March the “international Day for the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination”. This day was implemented as a reaction to the murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa, in 1960.

First meeting of Intergroup on Youth in the European Parliament

An Intergroup on Youth has been created in the European Parliament and held its first constitutive meeting on 11 February during the Plenary Session in Strasbourg. The Intergroup, established by a decision of the Conference of the Presidents on 10 December, allows the building up of a truly cross-sectoral policy approach to youth issues. So far, the priorities of the Intergroup are to deal with the four themes of youth autonomy and social inclusion, mobility, education and active citizenship.

Youth society for peace and development in the Balkans is a partner to Plovdiv Municipality in a project under the Europe for Citizens programme, Action 1: Measure 2.2 Support measures. The Project “Challenges and opportunities to town twinning” will start on March 1, 2010 and its overall objective is focused on encouragement and development of town twinning relationships by adopting achievements, experience and good practices of the EU in this field.
